The 2017 ATP season has come and gone. Before we start taking a look ahead to 2018, it is time to reflect on the best matches this past year had to offer. Even though too many top players missed too much time due to injuries, the season was not without drama.
In terms of historical importance, nothing outdid the Australian Open final between Roger Federer Rafael Nadal.
In terms of quality, perhaps Federer vs. Nick Kyrgios in Miami takes the cake?
In terms of fifth-set drama, Nadal vs. Gilles Muller at Wimbledon has to be up there.
As for the highest-quality five-setter, that may have been Nadal vs. Grigor Dimitrov at the Aussie.
The biggest comeback was undoubtedly staged by Juan Martin Del Potro against Dominic Thiem at the U.S. Open.
One of the biggest upsets was Denis Shapovalov beating Nadal in Montreal. David Goffin also pulled off a stunner at Federer’s expense in London.
And even though bigger names had already fallen by the wayside, the season ended with a bang in the form of a thriller between Dimitrov and Goffin in the London final.
